As part of the Computational Materials Engineering (CME) team, you will contribute to CoorsTek's global mission – to explore and optimize materials for our customers – by helping design, build, and deploy data pipelines that fuel materials informatics. This effort involves enhancing our data foundation and expanding our analytics capabilities. You will gain hands-on experience employing your collaboration, critical thinking, and technical skills in a research environment.
Role & Responsibilities: (Overview of project/work)
As a CME Intern, you will own your own project, collaborating with CME teammates to support the current efforts of CoorsTek Global Research & Development (R&D). Responsibilities can include:
- Data Engineering: contribute to our R&D data infrastructure
- Build Databricks ELT pipelines to structure data from machine-generated sources
- Develop validation and monitoring tools to enhance data integrity
- Employ CI/CD methods to deliver well-documented and tested code
- Data Science: collaborate with R&D researchers
- Architect pragmatic data science solutions, considering all stakeholder needs
- Deliver exploratory data analyses to gain practical insights
- Train, validate, and deploy machine learning models to guide materials development
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in engineering, computer science, or related STEM field
- Previous internship or related professional experience a plus but not required
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with at least one query, object-oriented, and/or scripting language (Python and SQL preferred)
- Interest and/or coursework in engineering or materials science.
- Data organization: Be able to clean, validate, and organize data from various sources into a centralized, tidy format
- Data analysis: Demonstrate the ability to interpret and analyze data with a programming language, extract meaningful insights, and offer actionable recommendations.
- Problem-solving: Be able to analyze complex problems, identify potential solutions, and implement effective strategies to address issues that arise in the course of your work.
- Teamwork: Be able to work with a diverse group of people from different cultures and educational backgrounds towards achieving common goals
- Effective Communication: Be able to communicate complex ideas to a broad range of audiences
- Not required but nice to have:
- Experience with version control and contributing to an existing codebase
- Experience with cloud data platforms, like Databricks
- Experience with data science and/or machine learning techniques
