Construction Inspector Supervisor

The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer by supervising a team of construction inspectors engaged in construction inspection duties and reports directly to Engineer 6, Project Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Position Duties
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Thirty semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties:
- Supervises a team of construction inspectors on multiple road and bridge construction projects who perform project inspection and construction management duties related to portland cement concrete pavement, structural concrete, embankment and base course, asphaltic concrete, bridges, airport runways, drainage facilities, and other structures. Ensures that work has been completed according to DOTD policies and procedures, plans, and specifications.
- Assists the Project Engineer in meeting with contractor's personnel to discuss problems, answer questions, monitoring the work product of inspectors, field book entries, test reports, and overall project inspection, and verify complete and accurate records are being maintained in accordance with the plans and specifications for timely monthly payments.
- Performs various office Engineering functions, including preparing estimates (Cost and Quantity), 2059 (ATM) Documentation for Final Project Acceptance and Earthwork Computations.
- Supervises daily work assignments for inspectors, reviews construction project documentation and inspection related reports daily, makes daily decisions and provides guidance related to construction project management. Instructs and trains inspectors while working on construction projects.
- Reviews plans, proposals, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy and constructability for current and upcoming construction projects. Reviews and checks daily work reports, item quantities, quantity calculations, and material testing/sampling reports for accuracy. Provides contractors, and other interested parties with project-related information as requested/required.
- Assembles and reviews project documentation needed for change orders, partial and final estimates, the final (2059) project submittal, and assists with as-built plan mark-ups. Reviews and recommends changes to plans and specifications for upcoming construction projects that are designed by others. Attends plan-in-hand meetings to discuss project design and development of plans and specifications on all types of construction projects.

Appointment Type: Promotional, only open to current permanent classified employees of DOTD.
Compensation: $29.45 hourly
