Position Summary:
The New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks a customer-focused, organized, and collaborative professional to serve as the Coordinator of Library engagement and Operations for the University Libraries. Reporting to the Director of Library Operations, this position supports daily public service operations at the Robert W. Van Houten Library and helps maintain a welcoming, student-centered library environment.
Essential Functions:
Service Operations (45%)
Works the 9 am to 5 pm shift to support day-to-day service desk operations, provides public service desk coverage, and assists with scheduling for public service staff and student employees to ensure consistent operations and customer service support.
Provides patron support for access services, course reserves, resource sharing, account issues, and general inquiries.
Troubleshoots basic service issues and refers specialized requests to appropriate staff.
Organizes room reservations, event spaces, and service and outreach calendars.
Assists with training and onboarding student employees.
Maintains service procedures, schedules, and training documentation.
Identifies and recommends workflow improvements to support efficient service delivery.
Engagement and Outreach (40%)
Coordinates event logistics, setup, and breakdown for library-wide events and outreach activities in collaboration with campus partners.
Supports operational coordination for library programs and events while maintaining a clear distinction from the instructional and content-focused programming responsibilities of subject liaison librarians.
Maintains promotional materials and social media content in collaboration with subject liaison librarians and the leadership team, consistent with institutional brand standards.
Assessment and Administrative (15%)
Tracks participation and service data and prepares routine reports to support library operations and outreach activities.
Maintains outreach calendars, project timelines, and related administrativedocumentation, as appropriate.
Assists with monitoring student employee budgets and operational expenses.
Additional Functions
Supports day-to-day library operations and serves in place of the Director of Library Operations, as needed, to help maintain continuity of public service and operational functions.
Participates in campus committees, meetings, and working groups related to student engagement, outreach, and student success initiatives.
Responsibilities may be adjusted as needed to support operational and departmental needs.
Pre-Requisite Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in customer service, libraries, communications, or a related field.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered at the University’s discretion.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms used for communication and outreach.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in higher education, student services, or an academic library environment.
Experience supporting or organizing student-facing events, programs, or outreach activities.
Familiarity with library systems, event scheduling platforms, social media tools, or campus engagement software.
Experience working with or supporting student employees in a customer service environment.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
