About this role

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator, Social Media. Working as a member of the Digital Marketing department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

The Social Media Coordinator supports the management, scheduling, and execution of social media content across the American Lung Association’s national channels. This role ensures all posts are delivered on time, on brand, and aligned with campaign goals and organizational priorities. Working closely with the Social Media Managers and broader marketing team, the Coordinator will track requests, manage calendars, organize content, and monitor progress to ensure seamless operations across platforms. They will also help identify potential content conflicts, surface opportunities for amplification, and step in to support posting, moderation, or backfill coverage as needed.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem solving, and is passionate about advancing mission-driven work through social media.

Location: The position is located at the American Lung Association’s Chicago, IL office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Social Media Managers in planning, scheduling, and posting content across national social media channels.
  • Maintain a master social media calendar, ensuring all planned content is reflected.
  • Track incoming social media requests from across the organization, maintaining a clear queue of deliverables, deadlines, and review needs.
  • Coordinate asset collection, reviews, and approvals for posts; ensure all materials are properly formatted and captioned prior to scheduling.
  • Monitor upcoming content for potential overlaps, conflicts, or timing issues.
  • Support posting, monitoring, and community management as needed, including coverage during high-volume campaigns or staff absences.
  • Help maintain the organization’s social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social).

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • One to two years of experience in social media coordination, content management, or digital marketing; nonprofit or cause-based experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic and collaborative approach to work, the ability to communicate well 
  • Experience with social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, native scheduling tools).
  • Familiarity with creative workflows and asset management systems (e.g., Canto, Click-Up, or similar).
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for digital storytelling and advancing public health or mission-driven causes through social media.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (event supplies)
  • Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping. 

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $47,000 and $51,000 per annum.

Benefits: The Lung Association offers a comprehensive benefits package including: 

  • Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year. We also offer Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees. 
  • Insurance - Employees (and their eligible dependents) can enroll in our medical, dental, and vision plans, as well as voluntary plans for critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, short-term disability and supplemental life/AD&D insurance.
