Position Duties
This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of boilers, cooling systems, generators, and related equipment throughout the facility. The role supports daily plant functions through monitoring, maintenance, testing, and communication. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Boiler Operation: Maintain and assess boiler systems under normal and emergency conditions using manual and automatic controls
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and care for pumps, fans, control systems, and other auxiliary equipment
- Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry, track results, and manage supplies for treatment and analysis
- Facility Care: Complete housekeeping tasks and conduct daily inventories of assigned plant areas
- Operational Communication: Report concerns, complete documentation, and maintain regular contact with supervisor

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
