THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position ensures safe and efficient boiler plant operations by maintaining equipment, monitoring performance, and completing important daily tasks. It involves working with an inmate crew, performing maintenance, and following all safety rules and regulations. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Boiler Operation: Maintain efficient boiler performance under normal and emergency conditions
• Equipment Maintenance: Operate and care for auxiliary systems such as pumps, fans, and control equipment
• Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and water softening systems, record results, and track treatment supplies
• Operational Upkeep: Clean and maintain equipment, make minor repairs, and complete daily inventories
• Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers, monitor movement, and maintain safety and security
• Daily Communication: Report concerns, complete paperwork, and maintain required documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are to be determined. You will work rotating shifts Sunday through Saturday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. 
• A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding
