This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Morris Village Campus, Cottage 5, 620 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Counselor II, working under limited supervision, you will provide clinical, educational, consultative and preventive mental health support services to patients in the Crisis Stabilization Unit to support recovery. This position serves residents in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield Counties.Responsibilities for the Counselor II:
- Provide group and individual services to promote recovery, stabilization and independence to patients based on needs and plan of care.
- Provide direct services as credentialed by the QA guidelines that is reflective of quality patient care and DHHS guidelines.
- Collects, organizes and records data and information for patients' medical record in accordance with QI guidelines that is reflective of quality patient care and DHHS guidelines.
- Demonstrate recognition of importance of collaboration and teamwork within CSU and CAMHC.
- Comply with the SCDBHDD/OMH and all legal responsibilities and requirements in performing job duties.
- A valid S. C. driver's license.
- Knowledge of community resources and the ability to maintain ongoing communication with other agencies in an effort to identify supportive services for patients and their families.
Position Duties
- A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
- One (1) year experience working with adults with mental illness.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Other Qualifications
Post hire, employee must:
- Have working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles, practices, methods of service delivery, practices of clinical counseling and education services.
- Have knowledge of psychopathology and patient management in a psychiatric setting.
- Have working knowledge of basic health welfare services provided by other agencies.
- Be able to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment and conduct detailed interviews, draw conclusions and recommend required actions.
- Understand this position is considered essential and requires reporting for duty in the event of hazardous weather or emergency situation
