As a County Timekeeper with the Department of Transportation, you will guide staff through time and payroll processes that support fair, timely, and accurate pay. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position serves as the main resource for timekeeping and payroll matters within the County Office. The role ensures accurate processing, reporting, and troubleshooting of payroll and leave information. As a County Timekeeper, you will perform the following duties:
- Timekeeping Support: Maintain payroll entries and resolve time issues across the county
- Payroll Guidance: Provide direction to employees and supervisors regarding payroll rules and procedures
- Report Preparation: Prepare and review leave, payroll, and quota reports for accuracy
- Error Resolution: Investigate payroll errors and determine corrective actions
- Policy Interpretation: Apply union contracts and pay rules to ensure correct pay and leave coding
- Record Monitoring: Review hours, entries, and documentation to confirm compliance with rules

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and shift work is required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Organization or Location Restrictions:
- This posting is restricted to Department of Transportation, Carbon County employees only.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title); or
- One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires keyboarding skills to meet standards for speed and accuracy.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Experience working with SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products)
- Experience working with union or contract provisions
- At least one year of moderately complex or advanced clerical experience with timekeeping or payroll for more than 20 employees
- At least one year of moderately complex or advanced clerical experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, and TEAMS)
- At least one year of experience sorting, filing, and retrieving documents using a specific system
- At least two years of customer service experience with inquiries from the general public
