COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE
Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

The Education, Interpretation, and Volunteer Section (EDPV) provides statewide formal and informal educational programs and activities to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) customers (internal and external) and constituents (hunters, anglers, outdoor recreationists, schools, etc.); develops organizational statewide partnerships with internal and external stakeholders regarding shared/common interests (participant recruitment and outreach, resource conservation, education, etc.); recruits, trains, and coordinates the use of volunteers statewide in a variety of activities and programs relating to Colorado’s wildlife, outdoor recreation resources, and the management of those resources.  The statewide programs within EDPV are: Education, Archery in the Schools, Volunteer, Hunter Education, Hunter Outreach, Angler Education, Wildlife Viewing, Interpretation, and School Programs.

Position Duties

The new, full-time position is responsible for the comprehensive management and expansion of angler education programs at Lake Lehow, the Denver Metro area's primary angler education facility. 

  • Manage all logistical and scheduling aspects for approximately 140 annual angler education events hosted at Lake Lehow.

  • Oversee facility and equipment maintenance at Lake Lehow, coordinating directly with the property owner, Denver Water, to ensure operational readiness.

  • Lead the volunteer management program for Lake Lehow events, including maintaining the active volunteer roster, tracking hours, providing on-site supervision, training and communication

  • Support statewide recruitment and retention efforts for the Angler Education volunteer program, collaborating with the Statewide and Regional Coordinators.

  • Cultivate and strengthen strategic partnerships with existing organizations utilizing Lake Lehow, while actively engaging new partners to broaden program reach.

  • Provide support to R3 (Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation) initiatives specific to angler education and the R3 unit's overall objectives.

  • Deliver angler education programs and clinics at Lake Lehow and other locations throughout the state.

By dedicating a full-time resource to this location, the role enables the Statewide Angler Education Coordinator to prioritize and execute broader statewide initiatives.


Lake Lehow Program Coordination
Maintain a comprehensive schedule of all activities and events conducted at Lake Lehow. Communicate with all organizational partners and the property owner, Denver Water, to ensure transparency regarding event logistics. Facilitate all Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) led angler education programs at the facility, delivering the agency's established curriculum while fostering an inclusive and professional environment for all participants. Coordinate facility maintenance and infrastructure improvements with Denver Water and oversee the purchasing and maintenance  of the inventory of equipment essential for program operations.

Angler Education Volunteer Coordination, Recruitment and Retention
Collaborate with the Statewide Angler Education Coordinator, Regional Coordinators, and Statewide Volunteer staff to facilitate the recruitment and retention of volunteers. Foster a professional and inclusive environment at all events, ensuring a high level of volunteer engagement and sustained participation. Primary duties include recruiting and training volunteers, encouraging participation in upcoming programs, and managing all logistical communications pertaining to shift scheduling and operational updates. Serve as the primary onsite lead and point of contact for all volunteer activities at Lake Lehow. The role also entails the planning and implementation of volunteer appreciation initiatives and events.

Angler Education Partner Development
Serve as a primary liaison for partner organizations seeking angling opportunities within the Denver Metropolitan area. Maintain established partnerships with entities currently utilizing Lake Lehow and identify prospective organizations that may benefit from the facility's programming. Facilitate networking opportunities and provide clinic participants with resources to engage with additional fishing organizations, ensuring the sustainability of their angling activities beyond events at Lake Lehow.

R3 Work Unit Administration
Provide administrative support to the Statewide Angler Education Coordinator and the R3 Work Unit. Organize and prepare supplies and gear. Facilitate the procurement and statewide distribution of equipment under the direction of the Statewide Angler Education Coordinator. Contribute to the design and development of Angler Education and R3 materials, including youth activity books, instructional pamphlets, teaching guides, and curricula. Complete general administrative office duties and other projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) years of relevant experience in natural resources, wildlife management, biology, aquatic biology, fishery science or management, public engagement, volunteer management, education, program management, environmental education or interpretation, partnership coordination, public administration, office administration, training  or an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
A combination of related education in any Science related degree will be acceptable., Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Geography, Geology, Outdoor Recreation, Zoology/Animal Sciences, Water resources planning or management, Public Administration, Social Sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology, human dimensions), Public Engagement/volunteer management, Education, Program Management/Project Management and/or relevant experience in natural resources, wildlife management, biology, aquatic biology, fishery science or management, public engagement, volunteer management, education, program management, environmental education or interpretation, partnership coordination, public administration, office administration, training  related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years

Substitutions
  • Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
