DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides direct customer service by phone, email and in person to the public related to Commercial Permitting. Researches, analyzes, and resolves customers’ problems and inquiries as related to Commercial Permits issues or concerns.   Computes, authorizes and prepares documentation for adjustments to customer accounts. Researches and reviews inquiries about permits by using the computer database and hardcopy file folders. Performs data entry tasks in accordance with Commercial Permitting Section data entry procedures.  Responds to customer inquiries on location checks, licenses, and permits.  Performs clerical functions including copying and filing as well as supporting supervisors as required.  The candidate should have strong inter-personal skills, be able to articulate departmental policies and have a proven track record in basic administrative skills.  Perform other departmental duties and functions as required.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office setting.   Requires long periods of time sitting at a computer terminal and interacting with customers on the telephone as well as in person. The position is physically comfortable, with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years of Administrative or customer service-related experience are required.

Substitution: An Associate’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement. 

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
None

PREFERENCES

Preferences will be given to those applicants with demonstrated experience in customer service; experience processing commercial permits.   Preferences will also be given to applicants with excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.  Strong organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast paced environment and multi-task is preferred.  Other preferences include a pleasant telephone voice and manner, heavy data entry and excellent problem solving skills.


**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
