DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
The Stormwater Operations branch is currently searching for a qualified candidate to fill the Customer
Service Representative III position to perform the various administrative and customer service duties
within the section.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responds to complex customer inquiries regarding Stormwater Operations programs, services, drainage concerns, roadside ditches, culverts, storm sewer systems, localized flooding, and right-of-way maintenance through telephone, email, written correspondence, and in-person interactions.
- Research, reviews, and resolves customer concerns utilizing Cityworks, GIS, and other departmental systems to determine service request history, work order status, asset information, and maintenance records.
- Coordinates with field personnel, supervisors, and other Houston Public Works division to facilitate timely resolution of customer concerns and operational issues.
- Serves as a liaison between customers, field operations, engineering staff, and other City departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of drainage-related services.
- Maintains activity logs, workload reports, productivity trackers, and other operational records to support performance monitoring, reporting, and resource planning.
- Assists with the coordination and communication of departmental initiatives, operational updates and special projects supporting Stormwater Operations.
- Provides guidance and training to designated staff on customer service procedures, work order management, and departmental systems to promote consistency and operational efficiency.
- Performs other customer service and administrative duties in support of Stormwater Operations as assigned.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a monitor. The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years of administrative or customer service-related experience is required.
Substitutions:
Associate’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the years of experience.

PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in working with asset management and work order system software/programs. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, previous customer service experience, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1 6.**
