Job Summary

The Early Career Data Engineer / Data Analyst supports Battelle programs by developing, maintaining, and analyzing data pipelines, datasets, and analytical products that enable data‑driven decision‑making. This role contributes to enterprise data platforms, including data warehousing architecture, and supports machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) services by preparing high‑quality, governed data for downstream analytics and models.

 

The position works under guidance of senior data, analytics, and AI practitioners and collaborates with technical and business partners across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand data, reporting, and analytical requirements
  • Assist with data ingestion, transformation, validation, and enrichment processes aligned with enterprise data standards
  • Assist senior data engineers, analysts, and data scientists with data pipelines supporting model training, evaluation, and inference
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and insights that support business and program decisions
  • Build and maintain analytical datasets, dashboards, and reports using governed data sources
  • Prepare and maintain datasets used to support machine learning and AI models, including feature‑ready and analytics‑ready data
  • Assist in creating and verifying AI-powered Data Agents
  • Support monitoring of data quality, freshness, and consistency for analytics and AI use cases
  • Document data sources, transformations, and assumptions to support reuse and governance
  • Follow Battelle data governance, security, privacy, and compliance requirements, including appropriate handling of sensitive or regulated data

Key Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Econometrics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field

 

Experience

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience, including professional, internships, co‑ops, or academic project work

 

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts
  • Experience with one or more programming or analytics languages (e.g., Python, R, or similar)
  • Familiarity with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI or similar)
  • Foundational understanding of data warehousing and ELT/ETL concepts
  • Basic familiarity with Medallion or layered data architecture concepts
  • Exposure to machine learning or AI workflows, particularly data preparation and model inputs
  • Experience with SQL and Python preferred

 

Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
