In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. Right now, our Combat Mission Systems team is seeking a Data Scientist Intern for summer of 2026 at either our Sterling Heights, MI or York, PA or Stafford, VA locations. Relocation will NOT be offered and housing is not provided
As a Data Science Intern you will:
- Collect, clean, and preprocess data for analysis.
- Build and evaluate machine learning models.
- Perform statistical analysis to uncover trends and patterns.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs.
- Assist in creating data visualizations and reports.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions
- Present your development status and final products including training materials for use and interpretation

Required Skills and Education
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program pursing a degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or similar with Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing
- Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)
- Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Familiarity with dashboarding tools such as Power BI or Tableau
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
