Location: Northern New Jersey Region within the following Counties (Sussex, Essex, Passaic, Bergen, Morris, Warren, Hudson)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Flexibility Required: This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet the needs of participants, employers, and program services.
Travel throughout New Jersey with approximately 65% of your time spent in the community.

The Vocational Assessment Employment Specialist serves as a career coach, advocate, and employer partner by making a lasting impact by helping individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing find, secure, and thrive in competitive employment throughout New Jersey.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Helping individuals identify career goals and develop personalized employment plans.
- Building relationships with local employers to create meaningful job opportunities.
- Conducting vocational assessments and matching individuals with careers that fit their strengths and interests.
- Providing one-on-one job coaching, workplace training, and ongoing employment support.
- Teaching job readiness, employability, and workplace success skills.
- Spending most of your time in the community supporting job seekers and employer partners.
- Maintaining documentation and service records while ensuring compliance with program and accreditation standards.
- Collaborating with families, counselors, community agencies, and funding partners to promote successful employment outcomes.
- Representing Easterseals at networking events and community meetings to expand employment opportunities.
We're seeking someone who is:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and able to successfully pass the Sign Language Communication Evaluation (SLCE) assessment administered by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS).
- Passionate about disability employment and empowering others to achieve independence.
- Skilled at building relationships with employers and community partners.
- Comfortable providing coaching, training, and individualized support.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage documentation and multiple priorities.
- An effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Rehabilitation, or a related field with 1 year of related experience; OR
- Associate Degree with 2 years of related experience; OR
- High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of the unique strengths and workplace needs of individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Work Environment
- Travel throughout New Jersey with approximately 65% of your time spent in the community.
- Flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, or holidays based on participant and employer needs.
- Utilize assistive technology for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
