Job Title: Dealership Accountant (Centralized Accounting Office)
Location: Mercedes-Benz of Richmond (Onsite)
Compensation: $50,000 - $80,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Position Summary:
The Dealership Accountant supports the financial operations of a centralized accounting office serving two Mercedes-Benz dealership locations. This role is responsible for accurate general ledger reconciliations, assisting with the month-end close process, monitoring manufacturer incentives, and supporting cash flow visibility.
The ideal candidate thrives in a high-volume, multi-store environment and ensures all accounting activities are performed in accordance with GAAP. Key Responsibilities:
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including schedules related to receivables, inventory, funding, and reserves
- Audit deals for compliance with manufacturer and lender requirements, partnering with Sales and F&I teams across both rooftops
- Monitor and track manufacturer incentive programs, ensuring proper recording, reconciliation, and collection
- Assist with the month-end close, including preparation and posting of journal entries and maintaining supporting schedules
- Support cash flow modeling and forecasting by tracking deal activity, funding timelines, and incentive receivables
- Monitor contracts in transit and follow up to ensure timely funding of all deals
- Manage and reconcile bank reserve accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely collection
- Serve as primary liaison with F&I Managers and lending institutions to resolve funding issues and documentation discrepancies
- Administer and manage customer deal product refund processes, including cancellations of service contracts, GAP, and other aftermarket products; ensure timely submission, tracking, and proper accounting treatment
- Assist with Parts and Service accounting functions, including reconciliation of related schedules, review of gross profit components, and support of expense allocations and adjustments
- Support Service and Parts departments by ensuring accurate financial reporting, proper posting of adjustments, and timely resolution of discrepancies
- Maintain consistency in accounting practices, internal controls, and adherence to GAAP across both dealership locations
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, escalating issues as needed
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries
- Collaborate with department leaders to improve processes, reporting accuracy, and efficiency within the centralized office
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 0-2+ years of accounting experience and automotive dealership experience are a plus
- Experience working in a multi-store or centralized accounting environment is a plus
- Familiarity with the dealership management system, Tekion
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and deal flow
- Understanding of DMV regulations, vehicle titling, and registration processes is highly beneficial
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple locations
