York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. The Dental Health Professions Department Clinical Instructor performs the following functions:

·Teaching Performance: Provides students with appropriate course materials (syllabus, calendar, policy statements or guidelines). Adhere to course competencies in the preparation and delivery of quality instruction. Be organized and prepared for classes. Teach and test relevant content. Pace instruction and vary delivery to meet different learning styles.  Provide appropriate and timely feedback. Maintain a positive environment for optimum student performance. Provide for and value appropriate student input. Maintain accepted standards of achievement. Help coordinate clinical education and assignments of students to clinical rotations. Ensure documentation, evaluation, and progression of clinical performance which leads to clinical competence.
·Instructional Development: In coordination with the department chair and other faculty, prepare and maintain competency-based support materials for all courses. Assist with selection of instructional resources. Provide academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience.
·College and/or other Community Service: Promote the College as much as possible. Cooperate with and participate in projects and activities of the College and as appropriate in the community. Serve on advisory committees as requested.  Promote and support the continuing education program of the College. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with college personnel.
·Professional Development: Seek ways to keep current in the teaching field. Develop an annual professional development plan (with short and long-range goals) in keeping with the College’s mission and institutional goals. Participate in appropriate courses, seminars, and workshops, especially those that introduce new ideas or practices.
·Instructional Management: Maintain required and appropriate records and files. Submit all reports in an accurate and timely manner. Handle student work and records in a professional manner. Provide organization and supervision of student clinical experiences. Performs other duties as required. Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experiences. Helps with the summer orientation meeting for the onboarding and collection of necessary documentation for new cohorts. Preparation for weekly clinical and laboratory sessions is required for efficient and meaningful instruction of the students.
·Student Advisement: Provide appropriate academic guidance.  Maintain office hours and be available to assist faculty during assigned and optimum times for advising. Act as a liaison for faculty and students for advising. Take advantage of advising training. Learn and use computer resources to access data. Be knowledgeable of institutional policies, procedures, and programs. Make referrals and conduct follow-up as appropriate.  Use discretion in dealing with confidential information.
·Clinical coordination: On site supervisory presence in the dental clinic to support completion of student hours. Arrange for external clinical experiences as allowable and appropriate with approved partners.

Position Duties

  • Graduation from a CODA accredited institution.
  • Possess a South Carolina dental hygiene license.
  • Possess a CDA license.
  • At least three years of documented clinical experience in the field of dental hygiene.
  • At least three years of documented chairside clinical experience in the field of dental assisting. 
  • An associate in applied science degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • A diploma in dental assisting from a CODA accredited school.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university. 
  • Knowledge of the curriculum, instructional methodologies, and alternative delivery methods.
  • Communication skills to interact verbally and in written form with students, peers,    administrators, and the public.  
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.  
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other professional organizations.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet timelines. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings as needed.
