About this role

Description

Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineer’s high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Fire phone, and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

Work hard. Have fun. Make history.

The Role:

Amazon Design Technologies is a multi-disciplinary group within Amazon Devices that builds and provides engineering tools and workflows, software systems and integrations, automations, and design services to hardware engineering teams across Amazon. We manage enterprise engineering systems, CAD tools, PDM/PLM systems, High Performance Compute (HPC) environments, and license management/procurement.

We are looking for an MCAD Application Engineer with deep expertise in the PTC Creo suite of applications - specifically Creo Parametric, Creo Simulation Live, Creo View, and Windchill - to play a key role in customizing and extending the MCAD applications used at Amazon. Our team is uniquely positioned at the intersection of hardware design and artificial intelligence, pioneering AI-based design review and design generation capabilities that will transform how engineers create next-generation products.

This role will be instrumental in developing and evangelizing industry best practices in mechanical product design, driving collaboration with manufacturing partners, and optimizing processes across hardware engineering workflows. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design intent is maintained from concept through production.

Export Control Requirements: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the functional design, customizations, configurations, and support of MCAD applications (Creo Parametric, Creo Simulate, Creo View, Windchill) with a primary focus on building and deploying scalable systems and solutions.
- Develop and champion industry best practices in product design, including modeling standards, design-for-manufacturing (DFM) guidelines, and collaboration frameworks with manufacturing partners.
- Optimize and streamline hardware engineering workflows by identifying inefficiencies, implementing process improvements, and driving adoption of standardized methodologies.
- Integrate AI/ML technologies into traditional MCAD workflows, enabling intelligent automation, generative design assistance, and AI-powered design review.
- Gather and define requirements from engineering stakeholders; collaborate with development teams to design and develop scripts, automations, and Creo application extensions.
- Collaborate with teams responsible for Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and CAD systems to support engineering tools and process automations.
- Establish and maintain design templates, libraries, and configuration standards that promote consistency and reuse across programs.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with PTC Creo Parametric (Pro/ENGINEER) and Windchill PDM/PLM.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, DFM/DFA, and industry-standard product development processes.
- Experience collaborating with contract manufacturers, ODMs, or manufacturing partners on design data exchange and release processes.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies and their application to design automation or generative design workflows.
- Familiarity with Creo Simulate, Creo View, and advanced surfacing/sheet metal modules.
- Experience with enterprise PLM system administration and configuration (PTC Windchill).
- Experience supporting large-scale, multi-site engineering organizations with diverse product portfolios.
- Demonstrated ability to define and implement CAD standards, best practices, and process automations.
