About the Department

Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

• Oversee the operations and management of Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities
• Assist the Principal Investigator and the Project Implementation Team in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, reporting, and disseminating all aspects of the Project to its various publics. 
• Serve as a key advisor/resource to the 1890 Executive Team, University leadership.
• Prepare project information to be used by the PI, Co-PIs, Office of Sponsored Research, Grants/Compliance, University leadership, Board of Trustees, and external entities.
• Supervise project management team, postdocs, research technicians, extension agents, University staff, and off-campus implementing partners.
• Schedule project meetings, conferences, and workshops for project participants, delivery of technical training and reports on the Scope of Work.
• Capable of communicating effectively in public settings, both orally and in writing. Ability to facilitate and coordinate the development, reporting, and dissemination of Impact Statements, Success Stories, Contact Hours, etc.
• Ability to prepare, write, proofread, edit, format, and submit project correspondence such as progress reports, quarterly and annual reports, and other documents.
• Ability to collect and decipher information to prepare written reports.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and understandings.
• Ability to establish and develop good relationships with staff, administrators, other institutions, organizations, etc. to prepare, implement, and accomplish successful project delivery.
• Assist in interpreting, preparing, and monitoring the Plan of Work reporting regulations and requirements statewide for 1890 Research and Extension and disseminate (qualitative and quantitative) information to appropriate sources upon approval.
• Assist PI, Co-PIs, administrators, and staff with special projects and issues that concern media availability, supervising and fiscal responsibilities as assigned.
• Help direct, design, and prepare Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities contact hours, accountability reports, and/or publications, including developing data collection and evaluation instruments synthesize information/data, interpret results, and make recommendations to improve reporting and dissemination.
• Facilitate effective delivery of project information for internal and external use.
• Participate in public and advocacy group meetings, and conferences when necessary.
• Perform other related job duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or Project Implementation Team.

Position Duties

Education and Experience:

A Ph.D. in a relevant field and 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in agriculture, environmental sustainability, natural resource management, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in program or project leadership, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of large-scale initiatives.
• Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams, budgets, and complex projects, preferably funded through federal, state, or large institutional grants.
• Experience working with mitigation strategies, or smart agriculture practices.
• Strong background in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, and private sector partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  Work Environment: 

  Expected to work beyond the traditional 8:30 am - 5:00 pm work schedule.

  Physical Requirements:

  Position may involve occasional bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

• Travel Requirements:
  Must be able to travel (25%).

  This position is federally funded by the Farm Bill (Agriculture Improvement Act) Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions / Section 1445, Agricultural Research Activities at 1890 Land Grant Institutions.

  The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision. The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities. Individuals must be able to relate to diverse rural/urban people as well as professionals. A valid driver's license is required. Individual will work with program leaders and other staff in short-term and long-term planning to develop statewide initiative plans which reflect the program needs and priorities for the counties, as well as the state and federal commitments Overnight in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
