About this role
The Director of EH&S is a senior leader responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs across the organization. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, promotes a culture of safety, and drives sustainability initiatives. The director collaborates with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and enhance workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute comprehensive EH&S strategies and policies
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and other regulatory bodies
- Conduct risk assessments and lead incident investigations
- Drive effective risk assessments and in depth incident investigations for root cause, taking lead on significant cases as needed
- Develop and deliver training programs on safety and environmental practices
- Monitor and report EH&S performance metrics and KPIs
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning
- Manage hazardous materials, waste disposal, and pollution prevention programs
- Liaise with government agencies and external stakeholders
- Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement in EH&S initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field
- Experience in hazardous waste site remediation, working with environmental consultants
- 10+ years of EH&S experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
- Experience with ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or similar standards
- Proficiency in EH&S management systems and reporting tools
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional
- Certified Industrial Hygienist
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
