About this role
Essential Function 1: General administrative supervision over the physical plant staff and direct
supervisory responsibility over the heads of various sub-units within the physical plant
organization, such as the building trades, custodial, automotive services and grounds units and
evaluation their work performance on an annual basis.

- Provide leadership and direction to staff through the two Assistant Directors.
- Hold regular meetings with direct reports and staff
- Address employee performance and conduct issues in accordance with HR policies and procedures.
- Encourage and facilitate employee engagement by facilitating departmental activities
- that promote teamwork and collegiality.
- Facilitate and promote on the job training for PPD staff.
Essential Function 2: Provides professional expertise to the Vice President of Administration
relating to College planning, scheduling, design and execution of new construction, remodeling
and renovation work, and utility infrastructure upgrades. Recommends strategies for and directs
the operation of all physical facilities necessary to support the mission of the College.
- Seek and recommend ways to beautify the college campus.
- Seek customer feedback on campus beautification.
- Identify ways to include College campus community in the beautification and maintenance of college campus.
Essential Function 3: Develop, recommend and maintain a cyclical maintenance plan for College
buildings and facilities.
- Align plan to College Maintenance Plan
- Develop plans for building and facilities not included in the existing College Maintenance Plan.
- Seek approval of cyclical maintenance plans.
- Schedule maintenance for each fiscal year.
- Manage implementation of plans
- Review and report on maintenance plans.
Essential Function 4: Establishes standards and long-term programs for maintenance and
modernization of buildings, structures, equipment and grounds.
- Develop, review, and update a college facilities master plan;
- Incorporate routine care of grounds and facilities, preventative as well as deferred
maintenance schedules and procedures, - Assess projected growth and expansion of the physical plant and submit recommendations
to the VPBAA.
Essential Function 5: Program Reviews the physical plant department annually for continued
quality improvement of the physical plant. Manages budget, program review and purchase
programs, and liaises in campus construction project activities, to assure that physical facilities
and deployment of physical plant personnel are supportive of the educational and other campus
programs.
- Undertake a Program Review of the department in accordance with the FACETS schedule.
- Ensure the Physical Plant Department activities are aligned and in compliance with ACCJC
Accreditation standards. - Maintain data and information in support of compliance to accreditation standards
Essential Function 6: Chairs the Plant and Facilities Committee to provide recommendations and
updating of relevant policies and procedure to the Executive Committee
- Work with the Executive Council Secretariat to prepare the meeting agenda.
- Ensure meeting are held as scheduled
- Follow through with meeting recommendations
