THE POSITION

Make a daily impact by becoming a Driver License Center Supervisor with the Department of Transportation. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role oversees daily operations at a Driver License Center and ensures testing, customer service, and staff performance meet established standards. It focuses on leadership, oversight, and maintaining fair and accurate testing procedures. As a Driver License Center Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Staff Leadership: Guide employees through daily tasks and center operations
  • Test Oversight: Ensure all knowledge, skills, and vision tests are administered consistently and accurately
  • Customer Service: Promote courteous and professional service to every individual entering the center
  • Performance Monitoring: Review employee productivity, test results, and customer feedback to improve operations
  • Fraud Prevention: Maintain oversight and audit controls to deter identity theft and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Training Support: Identify staff development needs and provide appropriate training opportunities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers when needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Organization or Location Restrictions:

  • This posting is restricted to Department of Transportation employees only. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or
  • Three years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.


Special Requirements:

  • All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

    • Reassignment (Only current civil service employees in the same agency who hold the same or similar job title, with the same maximum salary, within the same occupational group or where there is a logical career movement, will qualify for reassignment.)
      • Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and 
      • (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher. 

Promotion Without Examination (PWOE):

  • Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications:
    • Driver License Examiner
    • Driver License Examiner Assistant
  • Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
  • The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
  • Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum of one year in the next lower classes by the posting closing date with no break in service.
