Job Focus Area

At the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), the Division of Diverse Learners is committed to ensuring that all students — including students with disabilities — have access to high-quality instruction and meaningful pathways to success. Our team works across offices, districts, and partners statewide to strengthen instructional systems and improve outcomes for diverse learners.

We are seeking an Education Consultant 4 to serve as a statewide subject-matter expert supporting students with significant disabilities. This role leads the development of guidance, resources, and professional learning to help educators and school systems implement strong instructional supports, effective transition planning, and clear graduation pathways for students with disabilities across Louisiana.

Candidates with the following skills, abilities, and experience are encouraged to apply:

  • Experience supporting students with significant cognitive disabilities, including familiarity with alternate assessments such as LEAP Connect and instruction aligned to alternate achievement standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of high school graduation pathways for students with disabilities, including the April Dunn Act, transition planning, and postsecondary readiness supports.
  • Strong expertise in IDEA regulations, IEP development, and special education policy, including familiarity with Louisiana policies such as Bulletin 1530 and Bulletin 1706.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development, training, and technical assistance for educators, administrators, and district leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and collaborate across teams, including coordinating statewide initiatives and supporting school systems in implementing instructional supports and interventions.

Position Duties

Eight years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR

An advanced degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Job Duties:
In this role, the Education Consultant 4 will support statewide efforts to improve outcomes for students with disabilities, particularly students with significant cognitive disabilities. In this position, you will:

  • Develop and oversee instructional resources and guidance that help K–12 students with significant disabilities access high-quality curriculum and effective interventions.
  • Serve as the department’s subject matter expert on graduation pathways for students with disabilities, including the April Dunn Act, alternate assessments, and diploma eligibility requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and coaching to school systems on transition planning, IEP development, instructional supports, and programming for students with significant disabilities.
  • Design and deliver professional development and training for educators, administrators, pupil appraisal personnel, and district leadership teams across Louisiana.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop standards, assessments, and statewide guidance that support students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  • Support statewide policy implementation and cross-agency initiatives, ensuring alignment with IDEA regulations, BESE policies, and department priorities.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
Work Schedule: Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $31.25/hour. 

**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
