DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides vocational instruction that helps inmate students at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene learn electrical skills and safety practices in both classroom and laboratory settings. As an Electrical/Electronic Skills Occupations Teacher, you will perform the following duties:

  • Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt curriculum materials based on assessment results to match learner needs
  • Instruction Delivery: Provide classroom and shop teaching for residential and commercial electrical occupations and include construction industry safety training
  • Record Maintenance: Update and maintain education, attendance, inventory, and payroll records following DOC and SCI procedures
  • Supply Management: Order classroom supplies, materials, and equipment according to required procedures and deadlines
  • Behavior Monitoring: Monitor student conduct, apply classroom rules, and take corrective action when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Electricity. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years. 

Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Instructional Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be in possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.


You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
