Job Description
You will be the Electro Optical Systems Engineer for the Electro Optical (EO/IR) development team at Lockheed Martin. Our team creates state of the art infrared (IR) sensors and camera subsystems that power next generation defense platforms, while delivering world class technical support to our customers.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Electro Optical Systems Engineer you will act as the technical lead and primary customer interface for IR sensor programs. You will shape future product concepts, drive performance modeling of focal plane and camera optics, and ensure that designs meet all functional and budgetary requirements. You will also supervise multidisciplinary engineers, manage schedule and earned value tracking, and provide hands on system debugging when issues arise. Your responsibilities will include
• Lead technical teams (mechanical, electrical, optical) through concept definition, trade studies and detailed design of EO/IR sensors.
• Develop and execute performance models and analysis of focal plane arrays, optics, thermal behavior and signal to noise metrics.
• Create and present clear technical briefings, status reports and design reviews to internal stakeholders and external customers.
• Own program planning: define task breakdowns, monitor schedules, track budgets and earned value metrics, and report risks and mitigation actions.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment.
• Perform system level debugging and root cause troubleshooting; provide technical direction to resolve failures quickly.
• Coordinate customer interactions, manage expectations, and ensure contractual deliverables are met on time and to specification.
• Conduct trade studies for alternate optical architectures, detector technologies and packaging approaches, delivering recommendation reports for senior decision makers.
• Maintain up to date technical documentation (requirements, interface control documents, test plans, failure reports) in compliance with aerospace standards.
• Support ongoing development contracts while influencing the roadmap for future EO/IR products.
