Job Description

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:
A substitute teacher provides interim classroom instruction and support during the absence of
the regular teacher. This role involves maintaining an orderly classroom, delivering pre-planned
lessons, and fostering an environment conducive to learning. The substitute teacher ensures
students receive a high-quality education while adhering to the established curriculum and
school policies.

Essential Functions:
• Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of
assigned students; implements an instructional program designed to meet individual
student needs and whole groups which may include at risk or special needs youth;
implements lesson plans.
• Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials, which are suited to
the well-being of the students and to the nature of the learning activities, program and/or
curriculum involved; implements established program or curriculum objectives.
• Implements, in a positive and supportive manner, established classroom policies and
procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling and
discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; makes
referrals for assistance, where appropriate.
• Confers with students, parents/guardians and other staff, maintaining an open positive
relationship as appropriate to provide guidance and evaluation and to encourage student
achievement.
• Informs contract teacher about work done in each subject and any homework
assignments made to students.
• Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel and volunteers.
• Ability to work with a diverse student population within the classroom and within the
individual building setting—must possess strong listening and problem-solving skills;
demonstrate excellent classroom management skills and communicate effectively and
clearly with others.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

procedures for student safety.
Ability to:
• Deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working

maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques; use
necessary equipment, computers, machinery, tools or software; direct assistants; establish
and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, parents/guardians,
staff and administrators.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret in English effectively

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions requires the following
physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling,
crouching; reaching, handling, and standing on your feet for extended periods of time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit,
and occasionally crouch or kneel and frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk. Successful
performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and
peripheral vision

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There are no unusual environmental conditions. Most activities are performed indoors in a

Receipt of the clearance is a requirement for employment. Are you willing to submit to a criminal history background check? The record check shall include a fingerprint check with the cost, currently $50.00, borne by the employee.
