About the Department
This is entry-level professional emergency management work involving preparedness planning, training, exercise support, technical assistance, and emergency response coordination. The incumbent assists with developing and maintaining emergency management plans, coordinating and instructing training activities, supporting all-hazards exercises, providing program assistance to local officials and stakeholders, and participating in emergency activations as needed.
Position Duties
Examples of work include assisting with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of emergency management plans; scheduling, coordinating, and instructing emergency management training courses; participating in workshops, conferences, meetings, and preparedness activities; developing and facilitating disaster preparedness exercises; identifying gaps in plans, training, or exercises; providing technical assistance to local officials, whole-community partners, and stakeholders; supporting compliance with state and federal emergency management guidelines; maintaining records, reports, and correspondence; tracking fiscal expenditures as required; using Microsoft Office software to prepare documents and reports; supporting emergency activations; traveling as needed; and performing related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree;
or
High school graduation or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.

Essential functions include assisting with emergency management preparedness planning, training, and exercise activities; developing, reviewing, and updating emergency management plans; scheduling, coordinating, and instructing emergency management courses; preparing scenarios and supporting all-hazards disaster exercises; providing technical assistance to local officials, partners, and stakeholders; preparing reports, correspondence, plans, and other written materials; analyzing information and identifying preparedness gaps; using Microsoft Office software and related systems; tracking fiscal expenditures as required; maintaining effective working relationships with agency staff, local officials, whole-community partners, and stakeholders; traveling as needed; responding to emergency management activations, including after-hours or irregular work assignments; and performing related emergency management duties as assigned.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave
Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.
Military Leave
In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
