About this Position:
This position performs investigations and environmental and engineering analyses as required for the preparation of environmental documents and related technical studies. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Position Duties

Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Job Duties:
The job duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the level at which the incumbent is hired. The job duties and responsibilities listed below are for the Engineer 5 position and represent the duties and responsibilities that the incumbent will be expected to fulfill at the end of the training series. 

  • Directs and performs investigations and environmental and engineering analyses as required for the preparation of environmental documents. Prepares environmental documentation and reviews project designs and plans to determine environmental class of action and potential environmental impacts. 
  • Develops recommendations for engineering/environmental design changes to minimize the impact of DOTD projects on the environment and public.
  • Coordinates environmental work within the Department and with other local, state, and federal planning groups, resource agencies, and permitting agencies.
  • Advisor or consultant to other engineering professionals in the Department relative to environmental laws, rules, regulations, and technical work.
  • Reviews and approves proposals, studies, and invoices prepared by consulting firms for factual accuracy and completeness.
  • Provides technical expertise to lower-level engineers and engineering technicians to resolve environmental issues related to highway projects.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); by temporary job appointment; or by detail to special duty.

Career Progression: This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is being posted at the following levels: Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, and Engineer 5. The maximum annual salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256.00. Compensation:  This position is eligible for Special Entrance Rates as follows:
