This position serves as a Design Engineer for roadways, levees and structures within the DOTD District 02 Design, Water Resources/Public Works/Emergency Support Functions (ESF1) Section.

Plans, reviews, designs and prepares hydraulic and drainage construction projects. Prepares preliminary and final cost estimates for these projects.

Position Duties

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties:

  • Plans and reviews, designs and prepares details for roadway, levee, and structural construction projects. 
  • Direct and advise survey personnel regarding the gathering and recording of specialized field data required for drainage and hydraulic projects.  This requires knowledge of land surveying techniques and procedures. 
  • The incumbent is responsible for designing, supervising and/or directing the preparation of construction plans and proposals for projects 
  • Reviews plans and studies prepared by engineering consultants and DOTD Headquarters sections for conformance to DOTD and federal standards. 

Position-Specific Details:
Upcoming Graduates: Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation. The offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree. If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation. The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire. Please make every effort to attach a copy of your transcript to your application. 

Appointment Type:   Probational or Promotional or Job Appointment 

Career Progression:  This position may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, engineer Intern 1 or 2, or an Engineer 3,4 or 5. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.

Compensation: 
  • Engineer Intern Applicant - $24.04/hourly - Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.  
  • Engineer Intern 1 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly.  Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Engineer Intern 2 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly.  Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.    
  • Engineer 3 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly.  Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
  • Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly.  Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.
  • Engineer 5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly.  Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus Two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.
