About this role
About the Department
English Instructors report directly to the Department Head and are responsible for providing high-quality instruction and academic support to students. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses through systematically planned and delivered instruction; designing and developing curriculum; evaluating student performance; and advising students. The successful candidate will create and maintain an inclusive and productive learning environment, foster student engagement, and relate instruction to course objectives and practical applications of knowledge.
Responsibilities include reviewing and updating courses and instructional materials; preparing syllabi; participating in curriculum and program development; incorporating instructional methodologies designed to enhance student success; maintaining office hours; and submitting required reports and documentation in a timely manner. The faculty member is also expected to use student success data, course evaluations, and other assessment measures to support continuous improvement and teaching excellence.
Additional duties include providing academic advisement; supporting student recruitment and retention efforts; serving on college committees; participating in college and community service activities; engaging in professional development; and performing other duties as assigned by the Dean and/or Department Head.
Position Duties
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching college-level composition, literature, and technical writing courses at a two-year, open-access institution. Experience developing and delivering instruction in traditional, online, and other instructional formats is preferred. Educational development experience, including working with faculty and/or students on teaching and learning assessment initiatives, is also desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; a commitment to student success; and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt to evolving instructional technologies and learning environments
