Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Professional (Scientist) to join our Resilience Field Portfolio Solutions Team in Atlanta, Georgia. While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 90% of their time in the field.
This role will sit within the larger Global Resilience Business Area. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we’re feeling the effects climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we’re seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent. Role accountabilities:
As part of this role, you will be responsible for assisting Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks. Local candidates are necessary as this position will require field work and occasionally reporting to field offices for meetings and picking up equipment and materials. Relocation support will be considered
Your core duties will include:
- Conduct field work including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling in the field in accordance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Field work will require regional business travel for up to 3-4 days per week on average. Several times per year, travel may be required within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time.
- Implementation of various field activities including permit compliance sampling and activities, monitoring well development and repair, waste management, etc.
- Remediation system operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
- Site Inspections.
- Oversight of subcontractors to perform selected operations.
- Incident, Response, and Recovery (IRR) work.
To be successful in this role, you should possess strong field skills along with written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, and exhibit independent thinking. You should be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team setting as well as independently and remotely. Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to be adaptable, creative problem solvers who can work collaboratively as a team member.
Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with either hazardous or non-hazardous substances and/or wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- BA or BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
- Previous industry, consulting, or regulatory internship experience
- 3+ years of experience in the field

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $64,800 - $97,200. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
