JOB SUMMARY: This position will be expected to demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of St. Peter’s Health and support the goals and direction of the quality improvement process. The accounting intern will assist the Finance Department in various accounting tasks including monthly close, reconciliations, processing of accounts payable, and other tasks as assigned within the department/St. Peter’s Health.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Requires verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with various personnel and external customers in the collection and completion of complex and confidential data. Ability to listen constructively and analyze or make changes to processes and systems that will improve the integrity of the overall information system. Ability to comprehend detailed verbal and written instructions in order to complete complex and detailed reports, questionnaires and analysis of variance without direct or constant supervision. Basic knowledge of Excel required.
EDUCATION: Must be a post-secondary student with a focus on attaining an Accounting degree.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: None
OTHER: Ability to concentrate and work with constant interruption along with set deadlines for over 90 percent of the work time. Must demonstrate capacity to quickly gain the respect of others and multi-task.
APPTITUDES:
High intelligence, must demonstrate up to date knowledge in analysis of variances and statistical mechanics as well as financial planning and organizational abilities to function with little or no supervision.
Ability to quickly comprehend verbal or written communications and act appropriately.
Able to professionally communicate need for changes in submitted data or processes to both internal and external customers in order to enhance integration of multiple databases to create a single source of information for decision making.
Moderate to high dexterity, must be accurate in spelling and arithmetic when performing tasks on the computer and calculator.
High cognitive abilities, in order to fix errors before they become problems that cost time/money or cause embarassment.
