Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) markets and distributes NBC Universal’s film and television offerings across transactional digital and disc formats worldwide. Distributed lines of content include contemporary and classic productions within the company’s expansive entertainment catalog, spanning properties from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, Universal Media Studios and Peacock, as well as from select third-party partners.

UPHE distributes through its own operations in parts of North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and South America and through a variety of licensee partnerships across major territories around the world. Job Description

This role sits within the Digital Distribution Controllership function, based in Universal City, CA. Digital Distribution is a rapidly evolving and growing segment of Universal’s Home Entertainment business unit, which generates approximately $1 billion in annual revenue.

The Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with the key domestic digital distribution month and quarter close and financial reporting processes. This position reports to the Manager, Controllership, supports the VP, Global Controller and the Director, Global Controllership, and works closely with the FP&A, Global Distribution, Studio HQ, and Global Finance Operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Controllership team with monthly and quarterly closing processes, preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate data requests. This includes working closely with Digital FP&A, Global Distribution, Global Finance Operations, and our Domestic Digital operational teams.
  • Analyze movements in key balance sheet areas including preparation of monthly and quarterly balance sheet review packages.
  • Maintain monthly close checklists and calendars to ensure close items are completed timely
  • Work with both internal and external teams to reconcile, track, and research discrepancies in monthly royalty reporting from our distributors, following up on variances and open items as required

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • ​​​​Minimum 1 year of experience in Accounting/Finance.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Strong interest and/or previous experience in media and entertainment.
  • Possess an aptitude for financial systems, solid analytical abilities, outstanding process improvement capabilities, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience with Excel formulas/functions (e.g. VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to building working relationships in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possesses a high level of personal and professional integrity.

Additional Requirements:

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
