DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays an important role in preparing meals, delivering food, and maintaining clean dining and kitchen areas for residents at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. It supports daily food service operations that ensure residents receive safe, nutritious meals in a well-kept environment. As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Food Preparation: Prepare fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, desserts, and special diet items for resident meals
  • Meal Assembly: Set up serving lines, assemble trays, and check food items to meet individual diet requirements
  • Tray Delivery: Transport food carts, deliver trays to residents, and restock items such as toast, coffee, and sugar
  • Sanitation Duties: Clean dishes, dining rooms, kitchens, equipment, tables, and floors to maintain safe and sanitary conditions
  • Equipment Cleaning: Wash and sanitize refrigerators, food carts, toasters, grills, and dish machines after meals
  • Special Functions Support: Assist with holiday meals, decorations, and in-service activities as requested

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 1st shift (5:30 AM to 4:00 PM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work a rotating schedule every two weeks as follows: Week 1 - Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday; Week 2- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Preferred Qualification (not required):

  • Previous food service worker experience

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
