THE POSITION

Work Schedule & Additional Information:

Work hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch (40 hours/week)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Forester position is responsible for all aspects of forest management on state game lands in the Region. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs designed to manage, protect, enhance, and conserve the forest resources, within the assigned administrative Region of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Eligibility - all candidates:

Meet the minimum experience and training required for the job:

Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; OR
A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; OR
A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid PA non- commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
You must be able to perform the essential functions.

Eligibility - Competitive Promotion Without Examination Only:

CLASS RESTRICTIONS

1. Have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications:

Forest Technician

Applications will be reviewed to determine if employees previously held regular civil service status or currently hold regular civil service status in a class for which there is a logical occupational, functional, or career development relationship to posted position, or if there is a clear linkage between the required knowledges, skills, and abilities to the previously or currently held class with those needed for the position posted.

This position is subject to the promotion provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

Selection Criteria

Minimum experience and training required for the job.
Meritorious service; defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last due overall regular or probationary performance evaluation was higher than unsatisfactory or fails to meet standards.
Seniority, defined as a minimum of one year (s) in the next lower class(es) by the posting closing date with no break in service.
