Full-Time Undergraduate Student Software Developer for Summer 2026

About this role

Description

This is an undergraduate research intern position working with Dr. Zhan Zhang in the School of Computer Science and Information Systems on a research project aimed at developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered clinical decision support tool for emergency care providers. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of experts from Pace University and partner institutions with expertise in Human-Computer Interaction, AI, machine learning, and emergency medicine.

 

You are expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer. 

 

In this role, your major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Implementing the front end and back end of the decision support tool;
  • Conducting system testing with end users;
  • Participating in weekly project meetings and contributing to project goals, requirements, processes, deliverables, and timelines;
  • Participating in undergraduate research training and mentoring sessions.

 

Estimated Start Date: May 15, 2026

Estimated End Date: September 1, 2026

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field;
  • Strong programming skills and experience developing mobile applications (e.g., Android development);
  • Strong experience with rapid prototyping or AI-assisted coding tools;
  • Experience with LLMs and agentic AI systems is a plus;
  • Ability to learn while working on open-ended technical tasks;
  • Persistence in solving problems and resolving issues;
  • Ability to document work and report research progress/findings;
  • Effective communication and writing skills.

Summary

Exact schedule to be determined with supervisor; no more than 20 hours per week when school is in session and no more than 35 hours per week during breaks.
