Join the AI research team dedicated to shaping the future of energy. As a Multi-modal Generative AI Research Intern, you will be at the forefront of applying cutting-edge artificial intelligence to solve some of the world's most critical energy challenges. Your primary role will be to design, develop, and implement innovative generative AI models to drive breakthroughs across the energy sector by leveraging image, text, time-series, tabular, and/or video data.
You will engage in various stages from fundamental investigation to building functional prototypes. Your project will have potential applications in power generation, renewable energy, or grid for improving efficiency and product differentiation. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers and engineers across GE Vernova, ensuring your work has a direct line of sight to real-world impact.
Deliverables/Outcomes:
- A Functional Multi-modal AI Prototype or Tool: A demonstrated proof-of-concept generative AI workflow or tool that leverages diverse data types (e.g., time-series, images, text) to address a specific challenge in the business processes or products.
- Comprehensive Model Evaluation & Report: A detailed technical report and final presentation summarizing the project's methodology, model architecture, experiments, and a rigorous evaluation of the results.
- Validated Code and Workflows: Well-documented, reusable code and implemented models contributed to the team’s repository, enabling future research and development.
- Potential Contribution to Intellectual Property: Novel research findings that could form the basis of a patent application or a publication.
Learning/Experience Gained:
- Applied Research & Development Lifecycle: Practical experience of the end-to-end research process in an industrial setting—from problem formulation and experimental design to prototyping, rigorous validation, and results analysis.
- Domain-Specific AI Application: Proven ability to translate complex challenges from business processes or products into well-defined AI problems and deliver effective, data-driven solutions.
- Technical Communication & Documentation: Advanced skills in documenting code, articulating complex technical concepts in reports, and presenting research findings and their implications to a team of experts and business stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
- Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0 or 4.0 / 5.0 scale.

Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages, such as Python
- Solid understanding of AI and machine learning principles
- Hands-on experience with machine learning and generative AI
- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
