Robotics is an increasingly important capability across GE Vernova’s businesses, supporting inspection, maintenance, and operation of critical energy infrastructure. As part of the Robotics team, this internship focuses on computer vision and perception technologies that enable robots to understand and safely interact with complex real-world environments.
Job Description
As a Robotics, Computer Vision and Perception Intern, you will work alongside researchers and engineers to explore, develop, and evaluate perception capabilities for robotic systems operating in laboratory, simulated, and/or field-relevant environments.
Internship assignments typically last 12–14 weeks and are designed to provide hands-on experience in an industrial research setting. Interns will contribute to active research and development efforts while learning from subject-matter experts in robotics, autonomy, sensing, and AI.
This program also includes technical seminars, professional development opportunities, and chances to present and showcase your work.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with robotics researchers and engineers to develop and evaluate perception solutions for robotic systems
- Contribute to projects involving sensing, perception, mapping, and scene understanding for robots operating in real-world environments
- Support experimentation through simulation, data analysis, and/or physical robotic platforms
- Assist with integration of perception algorithms into larger robotic software stacks
- Document technical approaches, results, and lessons learned
- Communicate progress and results clearly to technical audiences
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0
- Strong interest in robotics, computer vision, and perception for real-world systems
- Experience through coursework, projects, or research in one or more of the following areas:
- Computer vision
- Robotics or autonomous systems
- Machine learning or data-driven methods
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
- Willingness to work on-site in Niskayuna, NY
Desired Characteristics
- Pursuing a PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (not a necessity, if you are pursuing a Masters please apply)
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for applying perception and AI techniques to physical systems
- Experience with programming languages commonly used in robotics or perception (e.g., Python, C++, or similar, ROS)
- Familiarity with tools, libraries, or frameworks related to computer vision or robotics (academic or project experience is sufficient)
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills

The pay for this position ranges from $1,000-2,000/weekly based on years of graduate field of study completed
This position is also eligible for:
- Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
- Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
