About this role

The Graduate Assistant supports the Data Governance Office by helping maintain data quality, documentation, and compliance processes for university data systems. This role is ideal for students interested in data analytics, information management, IT, or higher-education administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform data quality checks and assist with validation of institutional data.
  • Help identify and document inconsistencies or data integrity issues
  • Support basic data cleanup, formatting, and organization tasks

Metadata & Documentation

  • Update and maintain the university’s data dictionary and metadata repositories
  • Document data definitions, reporting rules, and system workflows
  • Assist in standardizing terminology across departments

Governance Support

  • Assist in the coordination of Data Stewardship and data governance meetings
  • Prepare meeting agendas, notes, follow-up items, and presentations
  • Help maintain project trackers, issue logs, and documentation repositories

Reporting & Analysis

  • Support staff in preparing data reports and dashboards.
  • Conduct simple data analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, or visualization tools.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Interest or coursework in data science, IT, business, information systems, or related fields.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or R is helpful but not required.
