Job Description
This position is for a Green Infrastructure Discipline Leader. within the Water Services Group.
As a Discipline Leader, your focus will be on the proper application of stormwater green infrastructure technologies, growth of our technical capabilities within the discipline, staff development, and pre-positioning and distinguishing CDM Smith to assist in sales growth. You will collaborate with dedicated local, regional, and national teams of talented staff to deliver in this role.
This role requires strong communication and teamwork involving staff from various engineering and planning disciplines. In addition, you will have the opportunity to represent CDM Smith at conferences and industry events and provide technical support and insight on business development opportunities related to stormwater green infrastructure and best management practices. Candidates from a variety of job codes (ENEV, ENCE, ENWR, ARLN, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
Main responsibilities include:
This position has extensive client interface, project execution, implementation of quality control measures, and mentoring of engineering staff for green infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong technical knowledge of stormwater green infrastructure and best management practices, strong design skills, and the ability to provide technical leadership through the full cycle of planning, permitting, design, and construction services for complex projects. Specific responsibilities include:
Act as a subject matter expert in stormwater green infrastructure and best management practice (BMP) planning, permitting, design, and construction.
Communicate and work directly with CDM Smith and client staff at all levels to advance green infrastructure strategy and project delivery.
Serve as Project Technical Leader, when required, with responsibility for all technical aspects of complex green infrastructure projects and make sound project engineering execution decisions within the bounds set by applicable policies, standards, guides, and contract commitments.
Oversee and produce technical reports, design packages, and other deliverables for green infrastructure projects.
Provide technical support for business development activities and help position CDM Smith for green infrastructure opportunities across the country.
Practice and promote a culture of quality, technical excellence, and innovation in stormwater green infrastructure delivery.
Mentor and develop professionals in the green infrastructure field, with a demonstrated commitment to staff growth and technical excellence.
Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and technical mentorship while helping identify and attract top talent in the green infrastructure field.
Initiate and pursue development and implementation of innovative and cutting-edge green infrastructure approaches, tools, and design practices.
Support continuous improvement, change management and risk management efforts.
Actively participate in professional organizations’ activities and contribute to the profession through presentations, papers, and published articles on green infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
Professional engineering (PE) license.
12 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications
History of presentations and papers at local and national conferences related to green infrastructure, stormwater management, and BMPs.
Published magazine articles or other recognized industry publications on green infrastructure.
Advanced degree in civil, environmental, landscape architecture, or related discipline with a focus on stormwater or green infrastructure is preferred.
Active participation and leadership positions with local and national professional organizations and associations focused on stormwater, sustainability, and green infrastructure.
