Description of Job

What you'll be doing:

  • Position serves as an analyst to utilize knowledge, skills and experience with data collection and reporting on the hospital market and hospital financials. 
  • Position works closely with senior analysts and management in gathering and inputting data and performing calculations as directed by others in the Division or in Standard Operating Procedures maintained by the Division. 
  • This position applies a working knowledge of hospital financial data submitted by hospitals providers to CMS and the Department for reporting purposes. 
  • This position determines practical solutions by following guidelines and agency rules or regulations.
  • This position has a broader exposure to special projects common in the Section and may be called upon to work with others in obtaining relevant data, preparing useful databases, analyzing data, applying appropriate mathematical, financial, statistical or regression techniques, and reporting findings to management.

Minimum Qualifications: 

There are two ways to qualify for this position:


Option 1:

Experience Only:

Five (5) years of relevant experience reviewing hospital finances or data analysis.


Option 2:
Education and Experience:
A bachelors degree in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, public health or a closely related field and one year of experience reviewing hospital finances or data analysis.

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Relevant education will be calculated as the following:

  • An associate will count as two years of experience

  • A bachelors will count as four years of experience

  • A masters degree will count for six years of experience

  • A doctorate or juris doctorate degree will count for seven years of experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior state experience related to the duties of this position.

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Public Health, or a program closely related to the position’s assigned work
  • Proficiency with Window-based software packages involving spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation applications
  • Proficient professional or technical writing skills
  • Research experience
  • SQL experience
  • Experience working with large, complex data sets 

DEFINITION OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Work that involves exercising discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, and sharing an organized body of knowledge that characteristically is uniquely acquired through an intense education or training regimen at a recognized college or university; equivalent to the curriculum requirements for a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in or pertinent to the specialized field; and continuously studied to explore, extend, and use additional discoveries, interpretations, and application and to improve data, materials, equipment, applications and methods. 


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
