About the Department

Under general supervision position will serve as a Breastfeeding Counselor, provide breastfeeding education and support to pregnant and breastfeeding clients in individual and group settings within the eight-county region served by the WIC program. The main role will be for Barbour, Randolph, and Tucker Counties. Attend the USDA Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training to become a Peer Counselor. Maintain inventory of and distribute breastfeeding accessories to clients as needed. Participate in the planning and implementation of outreach projects and other community activities that promote breastfeeding. May also be requested to perform other duties such as Answer phone, pre-certify clients, answer questions and give general information to clients. Educate participants and caretakers on rules and regulations of the WIC Program Gather basic information for certification including height, weight and hemoglobin.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Must be able to pass a written test at the eighth grade level.
 
Special Requirements for the Division of Health: 
Applicant must be certified as a Home Health Aide or must successfully pass the written competency evaluation given by the local agency prior to employment. Certification requires completion of a minimum of 75 hours of training including a minimum 16 hours of practicum. Applicant must possess a current driver's license and availability of a car for continuous use shall be a prerequisite for employment.
 
Note: For positions designated as Breastfeeding Counselor, WIC, positive past or present breastfeeding experience required.
