About this role
About the Department
- Provides full 24/7 management of the medical unit, ensuring effective operation, adequate staffing, and appropriate response to increased patient load and after-hour emergencies.
- Directs and manages health care services for specialized units such as YOA programs, Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs, and Institution-specific specialty clinics.
- Oversees the management of inmate health complaints, issues grievances at the Institutional level to ensure timely, appropriate resolution.
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with leaders of health-related disciplines, participates in inter-disciplinary management activities and collaborates with medical, behavioral health, and dental providers.
- Ensures Institutional adherence to ACA standards, DHEC regulations, and quality requirements set by medical review, maintaining health care delivery that aligns with community standards.
- Plans and manages nursing schedules, approves leave requests, oversees time and attendance documentation-including shift differential accuracy, and ensures cost-effective workforce utilization.
- Participates in required administrative meetings, manages operations of licensed infirmaries, psychiatric centers, or R&E centers, and collaborates with medical and dental providers to develop and expand services and inpatient care units.

Position Duties
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including at least one (1) year of supervisory nursing experience;
- Associate degree in nursing and four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including at least one (1) year of supervisory nursing experience.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of South Carolina or a qualifying Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
