Job Details Job ID: 5866089 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Jul 31, 2026 Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026 Locations Weldon Middle/High School - Halifax, North Carolina Job Description High School Mathematics Teacher Position Title: High School Mathematics Teacher Reports To: Principal Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position Position Summary The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for creating a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that promotes mathematical understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. The teacher delivers standards-aligned instruction, monitors student progress, differentiates learning to meet diverse student needs, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and administrators to support student achievement and well-being. The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence, equity, innovation, and continuous professional growth while fostering positive relationships with students and the school community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Learning - Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district and state curriculum. - Teach assigned mathematics courses, which may include advanced mathematics courses. - Develop lessons that promote conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving. - Differentiate instruction to address varying learning styles, abilities, and student needs. - Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and evidence-based practices to increase student engagement and achievement. - Incorporate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections into mathematics instruction. - Foster a classroom culture that encourages inquiry, collaboration, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity. Assessment and Student Progress - Design and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. - Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. - Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress. - Provide meaningful, timely feedback to students. - Develop intervention and enrichment opportunities based on student performance. Classroom Management - Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment. - Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility and positive behavior. - Maintain high expectations for student conduct and academic integrity. Collaboration and Communication - Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student success. - Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns. - Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and school committees. - Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture. Professional Responsibilities - Maintain current knowledge of mathematics content, instructional best practices, and educational technology. - Participate in professional development activities and apply new learning to instructional practice. - Comply with all district policies, state regulations, and professional ethical standards. - Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee. Qualifications Required Education - Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field. Required Certification - Valid North Carolina state teaching certification/licensure in Secondary Mathematics or eligible for North Carolina teaching license. Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. - Experience teaching multiple levels of high school mathematics. - Experience using instructional technology and digital learning platforms. - Knowledge of differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). - Experience working with diverse student populations. Technology Expectations The teacher should be proficient in the use of: - Learning Management Systems (LMS) - Student Information Systems (SIS) - Interactive presentation platforms - Online assessment tools - Microsoft Office and Google Workspace - Graphing calculators and mathematics software - AI-enhanced instructional tools used in accordance with district policy to support lesson planning, differentiation, formative assessment, and student feedback while maintaining academic integrity and protecting student privacy. Physical Requirements - Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. - Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families. - Ability to lift and carry instructional materials weighing up to 25 pounds. - Ability to perform duties requiring visual and auditory acuity. Working Conditions - School classroom environment. - Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for school events, conferences, or professional development. - Frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members.
