DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position leads a highway maintenance crew by planning, directing, and overseeing daily work activities on roads and bridges. The role ensures safe operations and efficient project completion, as well as proper use of tools, materials, and equipment. As a Highway Foreman 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Crew Supervision: Direct crews using heavy equipment and hand tools as they perform year-round maintenance tasks
- Project Planning: Plan and schedule work, investigate roadway issues, and recommend actions to improve maintenance operations
- Training Oversight: Train crew members in correct procedures, tool use, and maintenance methods while ensuring quality standards
- Safety Leadership: Select traffic control setups, promote safe work behaviors, and respond appropriately to injuries or incidents
- Employee Management: Evaluate performance, approve leave, coach employees, and address disciplinary matters
- Equipment Adjustment: Make field adjustments to vehicles and equipment as needed using hand tools

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Organization or Location Restrictions:
- This posting is restricted to Department of Transportation, District 8 to include Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, York, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Perry County employees only.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1; or
- Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must be in possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
