Histology Technician 1

• Maintains accurate documentation such as variance forms, process specimen logs, equipment maintenance logs, etc.
• Recognizes and identifies different gross tissue structures to ensure proper orientation.
• Ensures that the tissue is embedded according to standard operating procedures.
• Communicates STAT cases, discrepancies and assists with continuous workflow.
• Embeds 35 – 40 quality cassettes per hour. Cuts 20 – 25 quality slides per hour.
• Meets any continuing education requirements to maintain certification(s) or as required by department.
• Successfully completes one position specific/job related continuing education unit annually outside of mandatory HealthStream courses.
• Obtains sections for recuts, special stains and immunohistochemistry stains while selecting the appropriate controls, mounting, dry time, deparaffinization, etc.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
