About this role

Wells Fargo is seeking a transformational technology executive to lead the modernization of Home Lending Technology across one of the largest and most complex mortgage platforms in the industry. This executive will lead enterprise-scale platform transformation initiatives spanning loan origination, digital servicing capabilities, automation, architecture modernization, AI enablement, and operating model redesign to support long-term growth, operational efficiency, regulatory rigor, and customer experience modernization.

This role represents a rare opportunity to rebuild a top-tier lending platform at scale during a reinvestment and modernization phase. The CIO will partner across Home Lending, Capital Markets, Digital, Operations, Risk, and Enterprise Technology teams to deliver a modern, mobile-first, AI-enabled home lending ecosystem.

You will bring an enterprise integration mindset with ability to drive transformation across interconnected domains rather than isolated technology silos. You will balance innovation with operational discipline, governance requirements, and large-scale enterprise delivery complexity. Navigate budget competition, enterprise prioritization models, and transformation investment processes.

Position Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes

  • Lead the end-to-end transformation of Wells Fargo's Home Lending Technology organization, platforms, and operating model.
  • Rebuild and modernize the loan origination system (LOS) architecture to support scalable, resilient, cloud-aligned mortgage operations.
  • Design and implement an agentic, AI-driven technology architecture leveraging multi-agent orchestration and intelligent automation principles.
  • Lead the build-out of a fully integrated, mobile-first digital home lending experience across origination through closing.
  • Drive enterprise automation initiatives across underwriting, fulfillment, processing, documentation, and closing workflows.
  • Partner closely with business, operations, capital markets, and digital product leaders to align technology investment priorities and delivery roadmaps.
  • Operate effectively within a highly matrixed enterprise environment with shared funding models and cross-line-of-business dependencies.
  • Ensure strong governance, regulatory alignment, cyber resilience, data management, and operational excellence across the portfolio.
  • Develop and execute modernization roadmaps that balance innovation, platform stability, delivery sequencing, and enterprise architectural standards.
  • Build high-performing engineering, architecture, product, and transformation leadership teams capable of large-scale change execution.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Senior CIO, CTO, or transformation executive with significant experience in mortgage technology, consumer lending, fintech, or adjacent regulated financial services domains.
  • Proven track record leading full-scale platform rebuilds, modernization programs, and enterprise architectural transformation efforts.
  • Demonstrated success delivering modern digital lending or financial services customer experiences at enterprise scale.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, manage enterprise funding dynamics, and align cross-functional business priorities.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise architecture, platform integration, cloud modernization, API ecosystems, data strategy, and operational resilience.
  • Comfort operating within large-scale governance-heavy environments with complex regulatory, risk, and control frameworks.
  • Executive presence capable of driving organizational change while partnering effectively across business, operations, compliance, and technology organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technology strategic leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
  • 4+ years of management experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading mortgage or consumer lending transformation programs exceeding multi-billion-dollar servicing or origination portfolios.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled servicing, intelligent workflow automation, and agentic architecture frameworks.
  • Experience bringing digital customer experiences fully in-house from third-party platforms or legacy vendor ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of mortgage capital markets integration points and secondary market operational workflows.
  • Advanced leadership experience scaling technology organizations through reinvestment, turnaround, or modernization phases.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise portfolio management, strategic planning, or investment prioritization functions at scale.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide operating models for innovation, digital transformation, or AI adoption.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries with appreciation for risk, compliance, and control frameworks.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional programs involving technology, business, risk, and operations stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with AI vendor ecosystems, partnerships, and emerging technology trends, with the ability to translate external capabilities into enterprise opportunities.
  • Experience driving go-to-market strategies and enterprise enablement for new technology solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize large budgets and resource allocation across competing strategic priorities.
  • Strong executive-level communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value narratives.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing, multidisciplinary teams, including managers of managers.
  • Track record of fostering innovation cultures and talent development pipelines in fast-evolving technology environments.

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$290,000.00 - $500,000.00
