We’re looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Horticultural Attendant Superintendent to join our team at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. This cemetery encompasses thirty (30) acres of land with a minimum of 12,122 grave sites, serving deceased veterans and their eligible dependents. This position directly supervises 3 Horticultural Attendants and is responsible for managing the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery

Position Duties

Four years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

Job Duties:
As a Horticultural Attendant - Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. In this role, you will:

  • Supervise and assist yard staff responsible for burials, maintenance, general repairs, and upkeep of the facility. 
  • Inspect work in progress for compliance with state and federal burial standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and assist with landscaping for facility grounds, including soil preparation, planting, and pruning trees, bushes, and flower beds. 
  • Inspect equipment, buildings, and grounds to determine the need for servicing, repairs, and maintenance. 
  • Assign and evaluate work performance of all subordinates under the Continuous Performance Management (CPM) system. 
  • Approve and deny leave requests by tracking leave to ensure an adequate workforce.
  • Counsel and discipline subordinates as necessary. 
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: The position will be filled by a probational appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee.
Domicile: Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings, LA (Jefferson Parish)
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
