Job Description:
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) Intern is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. This position formulates partnerships across the People/HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit to best assist with Employee Relations, coaching and development, compliance with state labor law, staffing needs, recognition, and engagement efforts. This HRBP Intern will partner primarily with our Sr. HRBP to support the Field or Remote Branches across the Midwest and the East Coast.
The ideal candidate will be able to facilitate employee investigations and develop recommendations for local leaders. They will advise local leadership on resolutions to complex issues and deliver HR solutions that drive increased employee engagement, performance, and results. Working directly with the HR Business Partners, Business Leaders, and People Dept team members, the HRBP Intern embeds HR strategy into day-to-day work and provides professional HR guidance and support to relevant internal business leaders with the objective of adding value to the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to help develop solutions, programs, and policies.
- Intake and develop corrective action for complex employee relations issues. Document and assist in performing effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks to ensure regulatory compliance in over 17 states.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
- Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate – attends regular meetings with respective business leadership.
- May assist in partnering with our HR Service Delivery team to update policies or employee resources.
- Provide support to M&A actions, including assist with planning and execution of change management plans aligned with industry best practices.
- Provides guidance and input on business unit organizational design, workforce planning, talent development, and succession planning.
- Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
Internship ‘Capstone’ Project:
During the summer, you will be responsible for several business-critical objectives for your business unit as well as other areas of the People Department. In conjunction with the Sr. HRBP, you will create your own ‘Capstone Project’ aligned with the strategic goals of your business unit. At the end of the internship, you will be presenting the learning you have gained and impact you have had on these objectives to the People Department Sr. Leadership team.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a high-growth environment
- 0-3+ years of experience working in coaching and advising front-line leadership
- Superior knowledge of MS Office, HRIS platforms (Workday experience a plus), and comfortable learning new technology systems as needed (Qualtrics experience a plus)
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills and critical-thinking ability
- Self-starter, motivated and detail/result oriented
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Behavioral and situational interviewing experience highly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Effective communicator with employees at all levels
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in HR, Business or Related Field
- Prefer 1-3+ years of experience in any HR related function (coordination, process, data, compensation).

- Hybrid schedule may be available (up to 2 days/week remote) after 90 days in the position.
