The Prince George’s County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Human Resources Analyst I, (Human Resources Analyst 1P) grade P18 position, in the Police Personnel Division.

About the Position

This is an entry-level professional staff and administrative position with various duties and responsibilities carried out in support of the Police Department’s Police Personnel Division.  Work assignments require a comprehensive knowledge of Personnel Law; departmental rules, regulations, and ordinances; the ability to communicate well with others; and a high degree of independent judgment, action, and initiative.  The incumbent treats all personal, personnel, and personnel-related matters as strictly confidential.  The incumbent in this position is authorized to carry out those duties and responsibilities in accordance with the established performance standards and is subject to reporting and justifying task outcomes to those above him/her in the department’s chain of command.

Today, the Prince George's County Police Department serves over 900,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 1800 officers and 300 civilians.

Position Duties


  • Conducts the research and analysis needed to respond to inquiries, complete reports and finalize personnel documents.
  • Completes Human Resources special projects.
  • Assists with Personnel related training sessions.
  • Assists with the hiring processes to fill sworn and civilian positions.
  • Develops and reviews job descriptions.
  • Conducts salary surveys.
  • Assists with the administration of the NEOGOV applicant tracking system.
  • Completes hiring and position processing.
  • Assists with preparing and processing personnel actions for Police Department employees.
  • Manages the download of Departmental personnel and position data from the SAP system into Excel and manages the security of the information.
  • Researches and responds to inquiries from employees and supervisors regarding personnel actions.
  • Serves as a Police Department’s liaison with the Office of Human Resources Management staff regarding personnel actions for all employees and activities relating to the promotional examination process for sworn personnel.
  • Processes and tracks sworn and civilian employee separations.
  • Schedules appointments for appeal boards and test development sessions during each step in the promotional process.
  • Researches and responds to inquiries providing informational and technical assistance to employees and supervisors regarding application of the Personnel Law, administrative procedures, Executive Orders, contract provisions, and General Orders. 
  • Performs other assignments which may not be specifically in the position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with this class of work.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the Human Resources/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, Business/Public Management, Psychology, or closely related field.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • One year of professional level personnel management experience which includes experience with automated Human Resources Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of the following applications:
    • Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • SAP
    • NEOGOV

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
