SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist I, under primary supervision by the Senior Employee Benefits Representative, provides assistance in the utilization and understanding of benefit plans. Serves as a resource for employee benefits information and processes, compiles and maintains all benefit reporting. Work involves assisting in the administration of human resources management programs and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, System regulations and University policy. This position will be an advocate and active practitioner of the Office of Human Resources Mission Statement, Values, and Commitments. Provides routine human resources support. Assists in the creation, posting, and/or processing of actions in the HRIS System or related systems. Assists supervisors and employees with HR-related questions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compiles, prepares, and maintains HR systems, files, and records in accordance with established procedures. Assists in generating and distributing routine HR reports, including but not limited to GA discrepancy reports, biweekly timesheet reports, and Workday benefits reports.
Coordinates and conducts in-person GA Benefits Enrollment meetings and processes GA promissory notes following established guidelines and timelines.
Provides information to employees and retirees regarding group medical, life insurance, and other benefit options based on plan documents and established policies. Monitors and tracks leave without pay in accordance with standard procedures.
Assists with new employee benefits orientations by presenting prepared materials and processing required enrollment forms. Reviews documentation for completeness and compliance with established guidelines.
Assists employees and retirees with insurance-related benefit matters by processing forms, correcting data, entering information into HR systems, and resolving routine issues. Reviews system-generated reports to identify and correct errors or escalate as appropriate.
Coordinates with departments and Benefit Services team members to process life events, including death claims, beneficiary updates, retiree enrollments, and terminations, in accordance with established procedures. Provides assistance to retirees and surviving spouses regarding standard benefit processes and online systems.
Assists employees with claims inquiries by gathering information, following up with vendors as needed, and documenting outcomes. Supports Annual Enrollment activities by reviewing forms for accuracy, resolving routine discrepancies, and assisting with scheduled meetings and communications.
May lead and participate in special projects.
Assists new Staff and Faculty members with I-9 and onboarding completion and E-verify requirements per Federal regulations and Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policy.
Handles Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations, in accordance with system policy and further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment within a reasonable timeframe after the individual’s employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
Responsible for providing support and assistance in one or more of the following functional areas: Workers Compensation, Employee Relations and Data Analytics, Total Rewards, Compensation, Classification and Talent Acquisition, Front Office, Onboarding, Student Hiring, Compliance, HRIS and Immigration.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: No prior experience required. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills. Detail oriented.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree. Prior experience working with FAMIS, Workday, Canopy, FFX and/or Laserfische. Prior administrative experience in higher education.

May supervise student workers.
